New 2017 Mazda Mazda3

2017 Mazda Mazda3 Overview

New Notable
  • Available as a sedan or hatchback
  • Two engine options
  • New G-Vectoring Control for all models
The 2017 Mazda3 comes as a 4-door compact sedan or a 5-door compact hatchback. It competes with the Ford Focus, Kia Forte, and Subaru WRX. This year, the Mazda3 gains G-Vectoring Control as well as minor exterior and interior tweaks.

Four trims are available: the Sport, Touring, Touring 2.5, and Grand Touring.

Changes to the Mazda3’s appearance are subtle. The front fascia is slightly wider, while the grille is more rounded out. Also, the headlights are a little larger. The 5-door’s lower rear bumper has been restyled as well. Despite the revisions, the Mazda3 still maintains a sporty, aggressive, and sleek appearance, thanks to Mazda’s uniform “Kodo” design language. Standard features include power side mirrors, a dual-pipe exhaust system, and 16-inch wheels. LEDs are available for the headlights, daytime running lights, and fog lights. Other available features include an underbody aero kit, heated side mirrors, active grille shutters, a power moonroof, and new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Powering the Mazda3 is a standard 155-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. The Touring 2.5 and Grand Touring trim levels have a more powerful 184-hp, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder. Both engine options can be mated with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Both engine options for the Mazda3 utilizes the SKYACTIV-G direct injection fuel system for improved fuel efficiency and performance. i-ELOOP is available for the 2.5-liter engines; it recaptures energy during braking and stores it for the electrical system in the cabin, also increasing efficiency. Fuel economy varies slightly depending on powertrain, 4-door, and 5-door configurations. Models with the 2.0/6AT or the 2.5/6AT with i-ELOOP have the best EPA-estimated rating at 28/37 mpg city/highway.

Inside, the Mazda3 has a new cloth cabin with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features the MAZDA CONNECT multimedia system that includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and two USB ports. It can be upgraded with an integrated navigation system and a Bose premium audio system. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows/locks, remote keyless entry, push-button start, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Leatherette seats, full leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a heated steering wheel are available as well.

All Mazda3 models come with G-Vectoring Control, which allows for smoother driving dynamics when braking, turning, and accelerating. Standard safety features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. The available iACTIVSENSE Safety Package includes lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, Smart Brake Support, and traffic sign recognition. A blindspot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert is available as well.
